About this Trip

We are very excited to be adding this birding safari in Uganda to our trip offerings. Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa whose diverse landscape encompasses the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains and the immense Lake Victoria. The whole country lies within the Nile Basin. Its abundant wildlife and great variety of habitats are well protected thanks the the existence of ten national park throughout the country. Wildlife includes chimpanzees, elephants, giraffes, hippopotamus, lions and hundreds of birds. The remote Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a renowned mountain gorilla sanctuary. Murchison Falls National Park in the northwest is known for its 43 m-tall waterfall and amazing safari experiences. We will be in the good hands of our local tour operator who is an experienced birding guide with knowledge of other wildlife and culture. The trip starts in central Uganda in Entebbe and heads down to Lake Mburo, one of the best savannah parks for birding in Uganda as it attracts species from Northern Tanzania. From here, we visit Africa’s number one birding site according to African Birding Club, the amazing Bwindi Impenetrable Forest which is also home to the gorillas. We then explore both sections of Queen Elizabeth National Park, with the biggest birding checklist ever recorded in any game reserve. Onto Kibale National Forest, the best site for the elusive Green Breasted Pitta and chimpanzees. Then we head to Murchison Falls National Park, divided into four sections all with excellent birding – Kaniyo Pabid (popular for the Puvel’s Illadopsis), the Royal Mile, Busingiro and Northern Murchison Falls, gifted with savannah northern migrants plus other rarities as well as an amazing safari experience.  From Murchison, we do a drive day to the least visited national park of Uganda up in the northeast corner of the country. Kidepo has been recognized as one of the best safari experiences in the world. The remoteness of this expansive park means there are very few people and an abundance of undisturbed wildlife. Our lodging is at the Apoka Safari Lodge, one of the classiest and most beautiful lodges in Uganda! Very few tour operators go to Kidepo because it adds to the length and cost of the trip, but we have worked hard to include it because we think it is such a highlight...yes, it's that great! From Kidepo we take a short, in-country flight back to Entebbe where the trip ends. Throughout the trip, our guide will be glad to share with you the different cultures of people and customs we will come across. Please contact us for more information.
