I have this strong feeling that I need to do all that I can to keep the idea of traveling to Mexico and birding in this great country in every one's mind! Maybe this will help to promote good thoughts about Mexico. All the bad press about certain areas is having a serious negative effect on the entire country and it just isn't right! My friend, and fellow bird guide, Mark Stackhouse, who lives in San Blas, summed it all up pretty well. It's like not traveling to Cape May to go birding because the crime rate is so high in Newark! In the case of Mexico, this is taken to an even higher level because the country is so big! Horrible things happening in a border town in Chihuahua is hardly an indication as to what is happening in Oaxaca or Nayarit! We encourage everyone to weigh what one hears in the media and always consider 'the rest of the story'! If you were just at our recent parade celebrating Mexican Independence day and saw the great scene, you might feel differently. Viva Mexico!
